Why do we roast your coffee to order, and deliver it fresh?
Coffee is a fresh food, that loses flavour over time.
The green beans can be stored for months, but once the coffee has been roasted it has a limited shelf life.
Oxygen is the enemy of most foods, and as the coffee gets older, oxygen robs it of flavour, leaving it to become flat, stale, and lifeless.
Coffee stays fresh for anywhere from a few months for a light roast, to a few weeks for a dark roast.
Mass production
Unfortunately, we live in a mass production world where large factories produce coffee, using the cheapest possible beans.
Roasting very dark (burning) the beans hides the bland flavour of the poor quality beans.
This mass-produced coffee sits in warehouses or on store shelves for months. This means that by the time you take it home it has lost much of its freshness. This is not a huge problem for coffee that didn’t have a great flavour profile, to begin with.
This charred bland flavour is the one many have grown accustomed to.
You deserve better.
Here at Athabasca Coffee Roasters, we believe in craftsmanship. Our small batch roasted beans are all grown by farmers who care as much about coffee as we do.
Since freshness counts, we don’t even roast your coffee until you order it.
It is roasted fresh, packaged with a one-way valve that lets the CO2 out, but no oxygen in, and delivered or shipped right away.
The result is an amazing, lively, delicious, cup of coffee.
Because you deserve great coffee.
